Will not give Radiotherapy for advanced PC

The cancer has spread to Lymph nodes in the right pelvis , they will not give me radiotherapy and no reason for not giving it , they offer just hormone treatment which is not good for me a i was taken off it after only 4 months in 2020

any help appreciated , i`am very very annoyed about this as the guy that took me of Hormone treatment in 2020 now says i will be ok on it , the hormone treatment gave me bad Angina

  • Hi Stiga, so sorry to hear of your recurrence and that it has spread, The main reason for being refused RT is if you have had it before as the area will still be recovering from the first RT treatment and a second course of RT also increases the risk of causing new cancers. There are new second generation antiandrogens "HT drugs" available which are better than the previous ones, take care.

    Eddie

  • Thank you Eddiel , could you please name these new second generation antiandrogens HT drugs , as these could be the thing i need , best regards

  • Hello , could you please name these new drugs for me as these could be exactly what i need, regards

  • I could not edit the previous messages so have to create new posts , i found this ?

    Radiotherapy for metastatic prostate cancer

You might have radiotherapy for prostate cancer that has spread to different parts of the body. This is metastatic or advanced prostate cancer.

Radiotherapy uses high energy waves similar to x-rays to destroy prostate cancer cells. You might have external beam radiotherapy or internal radiotherapy. External beam radiotherapy directs radiotherapy beams at the cancer from a machine. This is different to internal radiotherapy which means giving radiotherapy to the cancer from inside the body.

For metastatic prostate cancer, you might have a type of internal radiotherapy called Radium 223. Your doctor may also suggest you have a type of internal radiotherapy called Lutetium-177-PSMA. This is a new type of internal radiotherapy treatment.

The aim of radiotherapy for metastatic prostate cancer is to shrink the cancer, relieve symptoms such as pain and help you feel more comfortable.

External radiotherapy for metastatic prostate cancer

External radiotherapy is a possible treatment for metastatic or advanced prostate cancer. Metastatic prostate cancer means the cancer has spread from the prostate to other parts of the body.

When prostate cancer is advanced, it can no longer be cured. Radiotherapy treatment can often control the cancer, help to reduce symptoms and make you feel better.

You have this treatment in the hospital radiotherapy department. It doesn't hurt, although laying on the radiotherapy couch can be uncomfortable.

You may also have a type of internal radiotherapy called Radium 223 (Xofigo).

  • Hello Stiga, they are Enzalutamide, Apolutamide, Darolutamide and Abiraterone, with Enzalutamide being the first option for many,

    Eddie

  • Thanks for the replies most appreciated ,  can i just go back to RT as mine was in 2020  almost 4 years ago , so why can i not have this it is for Advanced PC " You may also have a type of internal radiotherapy called Radium 223 (Xofigo)."

As regards HT new second generation i was looking at this one as it may not cause as much blood pressure {as that is my problem with HT}  the first one of my choice because of a Tablet  Daily dose would be Abiraterone { Zytiga } , my theory of it may not cause as much Blood Pressure is the fact that it is not one big 3 month dosage and if my blood pressure went up i could ? stop them for a day or to , i take Milled Flax seed which also acts against Testosterone, i only found out the other day that it is the lack of Testosterone which elevates Blood pressure

  • Abiraterone looks a promising option for you, RT to the same area of your body after just 4 years would be too harmful as your body is still recovering from the RT you had before and your risk of getting new cancers rises. I know testosterone can increase  BP but it also does a lot of good things for the health of your blood. take care.

    Eddie

  • Thanks Eddie but unfortunately i cannot live with more elevated blood pressure , this HT acts on the brain sort of instructing it to stop producing Testosterone ? some thing that i think is dodgy to say the leaste , i see nothing good with it at all and in my  opinion they should have just removed my Prostrate gland in the first place ? King Charles , later today i will email the Urology surgeon about the alternative things you mention there ? brachy therapy implants , it`s just ageism and costs as far as i`am concerned by the Consultant , he did not even tell me what you have told me he did not mention why i cannot have any more RT, but i know of some other things and these were not mentioned,  I some how have to try pull my self out of this angry, upset , worried state and try get back to normal the begging of the end and Fred Dibnah said that stuff you are giving me is making me ill

  • Hi Stiga as i also have advanced PCa and am terminal with other serious health issues as well, I understand your feelings regarding limited options, my only one Being HT which has only slowed my cancers spread and soon will be ineffective, Were you not offered a prostatectomy when first diagnosed,

    Eddie

  • Hello Eddie , no i was not offered a prostatectomy and I all ways felt that would have been the logical thing to do , but it seems logic does not exist where i`am being ? treated , i put a question mark before treated because the only option i have been given now means becoming a couch potatoe , i like to cycle that and playing in a band once a week is the only thing i have left , HT would raise my blood pressure to much to cycle , I could not find that list of alternate therapies you mentioned could you  please write them again in here, best regards
