Safe sex on cancer treatments

Hi. My husband takes Axitinib for kidney cancer. We have an active sex life,  but no can say whether we should use condoms or not? The consultant said he'd find out but didn't come back with an answer. We are using them mostly but I need to know if it's safe for me if we don't? Thank you

  • I also asked this question at my first oncology appointment. Dr was a bit vague and said probably best to use protection. When I talked to nurse she said to wait until after day 10 after chemo, if not using protection. Not sure if it's different, depending which type of chemo you're on, would think it is. Would be interested to hear what answer you get.

Axitinib isn't chemo though, which is why I'm struggling to get answers. It targets cancer growths and there's no advice other than don't get pregnant!
