Best bra for post mastectomy

Hi

My name is Sarah,  I have recently been diagnosed with invasive ductal cancer, after a brief discussion with the doctor, he thinks a total mastectomy will be best.

Everything seems to be running at a fast pass, so I want to be prepared.  I have looked on line but there are several different types of post surgery bras and don't want to purchase the wrong one and need to quickly get the right one.

Thank you

Sarah

  • Hi Sarah - I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I've just had a mastectomy and gave bought post surgical bras from M&S really soft fabric, front fastening, wide straps.  I'm 2 weeks post op and haven't worn a bra yet as I have a lot of fluid so more comfortable without.  Have a look at M&S online. Wishing you a speedy recovery

  • Thank you for your reply. Sorry to you too, and glad you're getting better.  Thanks for the advice.

  • Hello Pandamum, I am sorry to hear your story . I had bilateral mastectomies in  September 2022, I didn’t bother wearing a bra months later ,felt quite happy going flat .When spring and summer came I felt that clothes sat better with breasts . I wore the soft ,over the head bras from Tesco and Asda ,they have little pouches with pads . I removed the pads and popped prosthesis in . Very comfortable too . I have had chestexpanders in now and going to have some silicone implants in May . Still wear those bras as they are comfortable .

Just go with it ,if you really want to wear a bra straight away , the front loaders are the best to start with . All the best and stay positive , that helped me a lot . Chemotherapy was doable too, didn’t feel ill only the foggy brain for three days .

    Keep in touch xxx
