Hello,
Has anyone else had experience with being sent for a CT scan after a thyroid nodule biopsy prior to having results given?
A little background. I noticed an enlarged lymph node just below my left ear, painless to touch and hard. I kept an eye on it for a few months as I know they can sometimes stay enlarged for a while and wanted to be sure It wasn't going to clear up by itself.
Following GP appointment I was referred me for 2ww, i had full blodd count shortly after which came back normal and I had my neck examined a couple of weeks later, followed by an ultrasound 2 days after.
At first, the sonographer said the lymph nodes looked okay, but a little enlarged, and i thought it was all looking promising, until he scanned my thyroid and said there was an indeterminate nodule around the size of a conker/50p. I was shocked as I had no idea. I had 5 fine needle aspirations taken, 2 of the nodule, 1 of the nearest lymph nodes and 1 of each nodule just below my ear lobes which could be felt under the skin.
He told me the name of my consultant and gave me the number to call in 7-10 days.
So on day 7 (yesterday) I phoned and spoke to the secretary. she was very vague and said "oh I think I recognise the name, I think he wants to book you in for clinic, but I'm not sure if he wants to see you or for someone else to see you. Can I take your phone number and I'll ask and call you back". She didn't call back and when I phoned today to check, they said she wasn't back in until Monday :( so now I'm in limbo.
In the meantime, I got a call on a private number expecting the secretary, but it's from the CT department in another hospital wanting to book me in on saturday morning (2 days time). My mind is racing. Does this mean I do have cancer and they want to check if its spread? Shouldn't I have had an appointment or atleast a phonecall with the consultant to discuss the results of the biopsy and what alwas happening and why?
Maybe this is all just routine, but I've basically convinced myself it's cancer anyway and I'd just rather have a yes or no answer right now so I can have time to accept it.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, If you have any similar situations please could you let me know your story and the outcomes of your tests? Thank you x
