Help on Hormone treatment for PSC

I was first diagnosed in 2019 with Prostrate Cancer , i Had only 4 months Hormone treatment instead of 12 months as it caused blood pressure and had 24 Radio therapies i January 2020 , now the cancer has spread to Lymph nodes or / Lymph glands in the right pelvis area or groin .

They want me back on Hormone treatment but i`am very worried about the damage it does to the heart as i like to Cycle when i can , is there an alternate treatment , i have been told there is one Hormone which is not as aggressive on the Heart  as the Decapeptil i was on for 4 months, i know basically there are 3 generic ones they  originally chose from and my GP had to get it and Inject it.

What other treatments could i have , i`am only just remembering all the side effects i got back the in 2020, i did not feel to bad about this new episode at first but now it has hit home really hard on me , any help or advise most great fully appreciated,

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sure your doctors will take in to account your medical history and the problems that you had when you had hormone treatment before.

Do discuss your concerns with them.

I can't recommend a particular hormone as you can only really be advised by your own specialist team but you may find it helpful to look at our page on hormonal treatment  here

There is a fairly new hormone drug which has recently been approved which you can ask your doctors about called Darolutamide. I can't say whether it would be a drug that the doctors may think suitable but you may find it helpful to read the information on Prostate Cancer UK's website here.

Prostate Cancer UK has some more information about hormone treatment that has spread which you can read about here.

Do read through the different treatment options before you see your doctors so you have an idea about the different drugs that they may consider.

You have posted in 'Ask the Nurses' but if you post on another thread you may get more replies.

There is also a charity called 'Tackle'. It is a support group for men with prostate cancer. You can join a group or start your own. It can help to meet up and discuss all of this with other men going through a similar experience. You can see Tackle's details here

I hope some of these links may be helpful but if you would like to talk any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are more then welcome to do so. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Catherine
