Prostate cancer

My husband had surgery last February and had 6 weeks radiotherapy 3 months ago. The cancer had spread into lymph nodes but fortunately nowhere else, is this what’s referred to as locally advanced prostate cancer? He will get his first PSA result after treatment tomorrow, we are both very anxious.

  • Hello Harvie and welcome, I am not a nurse, but was diagnosed 2 years ago with locally advanced prostate cancer as my PCa had spread to my iliac/lymph nodes which are regional lymph nodes in the pelvic region. your diagnosis would suggest the same LAPc. I am sorry the RT was unable to contain the cancer but i wish you well for tomorrow and with future treatment, take care.

  • Hello Harvie and thanks for your post

I appreciate waiting for the first PSA result after treatment is an anxious time.

Locally advanced cancer means the cancer has broken through the capsule (covering) of the prostate gland. It may have spread into the: tissue around the prostate, body organs nearby such as the back passage or bladder, or lymph nodes close to the prostate gland. You can read more about this on our website here.

Prostate Cancer UK have further information on their website at this link.

Your  husband’s specialist or nurse specialist would be able to clarify his exact situation as they are familiar with all his medical details.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
