treatment

I have advanced prostate cancer, intraductal, large cribriform variant T4, gleason 10 (9.88) to be exact, PSA was 0.08 up to 0.24 spread to seminal vesicles, iliac nodes, bowels, anus and bladder. surgery not possible chemo maybe, I have had RT and i am on HT. i am doing pretty well, independent active and functioning well. I am due to see oncologist in 10 weeks, still waiting for last Novembers one, I have little idea of what to expect, as i have only seen her once in nearly 2 years .Anyway IF i was offered chemo would any possible benefit be worth the probable cost.

  • Hello Eddie and thanks for your post,

it is difficult for us to give an opinion on the benefits of chemotherapy without being involved in your care. We are cancer information nurses and don't have access to doctors who can give a medical opinion. Every case is treated very individually taking in to account a patient's age, general health and how they would cope and benefit from any treatment.

This is really a question that can only be answered by your doctors.

We do have some information about treatment decisions for advanced prostate cancer which you can see here

You may also find it helpful to read the information on Prostate Cancer UK's website here

It can help to have a read about the different treatment options before you see the doctors so you can have an idea about some of the treatments they may consider.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the cancer nurses then you are welcome to give us a ring.

Our helpline number is freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you Catherine, i understand, i have talked to a few of my care team, privately, and as i have done a lot of palliative care with cancer patients my experience tells me i am unlikely to be offered any more treatment and my team try to sound hopeful but are of the same opinion, PS, i should have mentioned, i can't have anaesthetic or chemotherapy.
