Any idea of how many months it usually takes from a consultant requesting a biopsy to it actually happening?

Hi Janetmax, it should usually be 2 to 3 weeks for a prostate biopsy, maybe a little longer due to strike action, though often you will have a MRI scan first, a transperienal biopsy is the slightly better option. take care.

Thanks Eddie, I had the MRI a couple of weeks after my consultation.
Hi you should have your biopsy soon, almost everyone i know had their biopsy within a week or two after an MRI, if you have been waiting longer contact the hospital,

Hi JanetMax, and thank you for posting.
It is difficult for us to say exactly when a requested biopsy might happen as it will be different in hospital trusts throughout the UK. It looks like you've had some good advice from eddiel.
It may be worth contacting the doctor's secretary if you feel the request is over a month old.
We do have a page on cancer waiting times here, but do bear in mind these are guidelines and not mandatory.
Take care and I hope you get more information soon. If you want to talk in the meantime you may find it helpful to the nurses on our helpline. The number is Freephone 0808 800 4040, 9 am till 5 pm, Mon to Fri.
Sarah.
Thanks for advice, I'll wait another couple of weeks.
