Help in knowing understanding if my prostate cancer has spread!

I feel I have to get in touch about my Prostate Cancer because my surgery are not interested and I need some help and understanding because I am now deeply worried. Please see below the email I sent to them which resulted in a no care attitude reply.

Many thanks and now await anxiously to your reply!

Kind regards,

Steve

Dear xxxxx,

Regrettably, I was unable to call the surgery at 8am. This was because I had not slept most of the night because of a deepening pain in my left groin area like a toothache keeping me awake. I therefore have overslept due to extreme tiredness. Although the pain is no longer present, I am deeply worried and concerned that the pain is linked to my prostate cancer spreading to the lymph nodes

I would appreciate it if my email were passed to a doctor for their opinion and advice. Thank you!

Kind regards,

Stephen

  • Hi Steve and welcome, i am sorry to hear you have prostate cancer. I too have prostate cancer which has spread to many places including lymph nodes and the only time i get any pain in that area is with an infection, and i have never heard anything about lymph node pain from others, Steve the only way to see if it has spread to nodes is with a scan. It is difficult to offer advice as i know very little about your cancer stats, when was your last scan, where you are with treatment, if your primary cancer care has been handed to urology or oncology or if you have a CNS, LCN, oncologist or MDT. Your GP would have to book a scan for you, but if you have had one recently this may be unlikely. I know this is worrying you and you need answers, as you have a diagnosis you must have got it at urology or oncology. If urology you will have a LCN, lead clinical nurse, at oncology a CNS cancer nurse specialist. They are their to answer all your questions and concerns and work closely with the consultants so know all about your case. and are there to help you. take care.

  • Hello Steve and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the worrying time that you have been having.

At Cancer Research UK we fund research and clinical trials but we don't have any doctors here that can give a medical opinion. It is really your own doctors who are best placed to answer your questions.

They have all your medical details and they can tell you whether they feel that you need any further tests to establish the cause of some of your symptoms.

I can understand how frustrating it can be when everyone is encouraged to phone in at 8 am and this time does not suit everyone. Do persist in ringing over the next few days to see if you can get an appointment.

If you have a urology nurse then you could give them a ring and ask their advice or if you are still under the care of your consultant then try and ring the secretary and see if you can make an appointment.

If you have been discharged from the hospital then do persist with the GP. Sometimes patients find it helpful to turn up at the surgery to try and make an appointment particularly when they find it difficult to make an appointment on the phone.

Try if you can not to think the worst. It is good to hear that the pain has gone and the pain that you had may be because of a strain that has now cleared up but it is sensible to have any pain investigated just to be sure.

I do hope that you know more soon.

If you would like to ring and chat through any of this then you are welcome to give us a call.

Our helpline number is freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
