Discussed at mdt?

Hi, I am looking for advice regarding why it means to have biopsy results discussed at the MDT meeting please?

I attended the breast clinic last week with a lump in the outer, upper quadrant of my left breast. It is a fixed marble sized lump which is solid and palpable. I was sent for the ultrasound where it was graded as U3 and I had 3 core biopsies taken. I went back to see the consultant who booked in a telephone call for next week. I called on Friday to see if there had been any results yet and the secretary advised that I was scheduled for discussion on that afternoons MDT meeting and they couldn’t discuss my results but would be in touch. It has now worried me as everything I have seen regarding MDT is in relation to formulating treatment plans for new cancer diagnosis’

I know I am likely just being overly anxious but it’s really stressed me out since hearing it as there isn’t much information other than relating to cancer that I have seen.

thank you for taking the time to read my post x x

  • Im going through the same thing. But as my hospital mdt meeting is on this bank holiday and will delay it. Hopefully not another week. I had an aspiration on left cyst and a biopsy on right lump that I didn't even know about. They couldn't aspirate it. So they dont know what it is until results. Im trying to occupy myself as best I can. Please try not to worry

  • Hi Poetrygirl and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about waiting for results, and can appreciate that this a difficult and stressful time for you.

When the multi disciplinary team (MDT) meeting is cancelled because of a bank holiday, some cases are discussed in an ad hoc meeting.

Most hospital specialists only have one clinic per week, so most likely you will be scheduled for the next clinic after the MDT.

I don't know if you have tried chasing the results. You can contact your hospital specialist’s secretary via the hospital's general number (switchboard).

If you do not know the name of the doctor you could contact your GP surgery as they might have this. Also, it might be worth checking with the GP if they have had any results.

In the meantime Anxiety UK and Every Mind Matters have good advice on how to cope when waiting for results.

Try to stay as calm as you can for now. Waiting and not knowing what’s going on can feel very worrying, so it can help to keep busy and do things you enjoy to pass the time.

If you can, talk to someone you trust like a partner, friend, or family member. It can really help to have support.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support

It might help to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline. You can call for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope you know more soon and everything is okay.

    Kind regards,

    Tina
