Grade 2 glioma

My daughter was diagnosed with a stage 2 glioma back in April this year, she’s 24 ,  she had 90% of the tumour removed and has had 30 bouts of radiotherapy, she’s been having focal seizures which the oncologists say ‘are normal’ she’s on 1000mg kept a and 10 mg clobazam, as well as 4 steroids a day.  My worry is as a parent that she’s struggling to walk unaided and is constantly tired and spaced out , she has a follow up appointment on the 7th august , I would like to know if this is normal for a recovery

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your daughter's situation and the worry it is causing you.

Having brain surgery and then radiotherapy to the head will take some time to recover from. I see that she finished her treatment in April so hopefully, soon she will begin to feel better and her symptoms will improve steadily.

How someone recovers is very individual to them and there are no definite time spans that will take symptoms to improve but hopefully over the next few weeks you will see a change. We have some information about getting better after brain cancer treatment on our website here.

Your daughter has an appointment with her specialist team soon, hopefully, you are going to be there with her. This will be an opportunity to discuss how she is after her treatment and any concerns you both have.

You may also find looking at the information and support available from another charity called Brian Tumour UK is of some help, you can see it here.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi Caroline , thank you so much for your help

  • Hello, so sorry to hear your daughters story. it is VERY similar to my own. I am 33 yo female, prev healthy. Grade 2 glioma, 90% resected and waiting for an oncology appt which keeps getting pushed back. I know thats a hopeful sign but im still worried. Post op o lost the movement and power of all of the left hand side of my body, it has def MASSIVELY improved. Iwas a very active outdoors person so am having to readjust a little for now. I am exhausted and sleepy all the time, a few little side effects but again waiting for appts. It's very difficult to be so patient.

Hope she is keeping well and had a lovely Christmas :)
