Long wait to be seen.

I saw my GP 2 weeks ago for a breast lump. Referred UCS to clinic. Phoned appointments today as haven’t heard anything. They are unable to give me a time frame for when I will be seen. Just said they are very busy and I would be out on a waiting list. I asked if we were talking a few weeks or longer and they were unable to say how long and that they were not guaranteeing any waiting times for the clinic. I know I am being inpatient but I’m also worried and stressed. Even if I knew it would be 6-8 weeks until I was being seen I would at least have a date to work towards and not just worry that it could be months before I’m seen. Realistically how long should I wait before I speak to my GP again about waiting times? I thought if I hadn’t heard by the end of august that would be long enough to phone and ask again? Or does that seem too pushy. Even if it is something sinister a few weeks won’t make any difference but I’m not sleeping. I’ve already lost weight as I’m not eating and I’m trying to appear unconcerned around my partner

  • Hi , how awful for you this waiting ! If it’s a USC ( urgent ) I understood that you should be seen within two weeks but I know that there is still a backlog . Try ringing your Gp again . I hope you get seen soon to put your mind at rest x

  • I’m not holding out much hope being seen soon. Appointments couldn’t even guarantee I would be seen within 8 weeks when I asked them. I know I’m probably worrying over nothing and that the chance of this being anything sinister is low but it’s still a worry. If I don’t hear in another 2-3 weeks I might phone again but I’m assuming the answer will still be the same and I’ll just have to wait until I move to the top of the list. X

  • That’s awful ! Hate to suggest it as it’s very expensive but do you have private healthcare ?? Could you go private ?

  • I don’t and can’t afford to see someone privately. I work for the NHS and have never thought I would ever think about going private but if I could afford it right now I would. I’ll just have to wait it out and hopefully get seen over the next few weeks. It’s going to be a long few weeks waiting. Trying to put it to the back of my mind but evert time I go for a shower I can feel the lump and it worries me x
