Melanoma

Hi I was diagnosed with melanoma last week the dermatologist consultant did not say what stage it is at. I am waiting for an appointment for it to be removed from my right bottom  ankle. And a fluid biopsy. Plus a mole on by back removed for precaution. He said in 2-3 weeks time. He also said its quite thick but does not necessarily mean anything it was a raised mole anyway. Any idea what stage this could be at.xx

  • Hello Cat23j and thanks for getting back in touch

As part of the process to stage a cancer often scans are needed to check for spread to nearby lymph nodes or other parts of the body. This is a common procedure so try not to over think things too much for now if you can.

Once the doctors have more information they can discuss the stage with you and any other treatment that may be needed after surgery.

I am sure you have already looked at our information pages about melanoma but here is the link if you wish to take another look.

Do keep talking to your team with any questions you have and share you concerns with them as well.

Feel free to get in touch again if needed.

    Take care

  • Hello Cat, thank you for getting back in touch.

Having your period will not be a problem with an operation or anaesthetic. For your comfort it will be good to let them know though so that they are aware.

Take care and if you want to give us a call or message again you know where we are.
