LLETZ sexual desire and sensations

Hi,

I had the loop procedure to remove CIN3 at the end of 2021 (December). Since then I have had a few different minor traumatic events in my life but sex was never affected before when I felt down or stressed.

Now I struggle to feel anything during penetrative sex and I find I struggle to stay aroused, orgasm or feel real desire like I did before. I also feel pain during and afterwards.

I'm finding it hard to decide if this is mental health or if something like nerves have been damaged during the procedure. Would you be able to inform me how likely it is that it's permanent damage? I'm 27 and am worried I won't feel anything sexual again for someone.

Thank you

  • Hey - I have had the exact same problem since getting mine in 2024. Have you had any improvement? Seen any GPs or therapists? I'm currently to find out what to do myself and will let you know if anything works

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

Unfortunately as this thread was started 3 years ago it is unlikely the original forum user will get back to you.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have had since having the LLETZ procedure. As my colleague said in her reply above on this thread there can be many reasons (physical and psychological) for changes to sexual desire and sensation and this may not be directly related to the treatment you had carried out. The majority of people won't have any change to their sex life after LLETZ but there are reports that some may notice changes.

Do talk through any concerns with your GP or consider a sexual health therapist that can work with people to overcome some of these issues.

I wish you all the best

    Naomi

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately mine was definitely related, I was not nervous or apprehensive about having sex after 8 weeks post lletz, and when I'd had a colposcopy in the past it was traumatic at the time but I was always able to have sex afterwards. I have been trying to get help for two years and might have to go private now. They don't know enough about the nerve endings in the cervix and it is really sad, there is a facebook group where many women have shared their stories
