LLETZ sexual desire and sensations

Hi,

I had the loop procedure to remove CIN3 at the end of 2021 (December). Since then I have had a few different minor traumatic events in my life but sex was never affected before when I felt down or stressed.

Now I struggle to feel anything during penetrative sex and I find I struggle to stay aroused, orgasm or feel real desire like I did before. I also feel pain during and afterwards.

I'm finding it hard to decide if this is mental health or if something like nerves have been damaged during the procedure. Would you be able to inform me how likely it is that it's permanent damage? I'm 27 and am worried I won't feel anything sexual again for someone.

Thank you

  • Hello PK95 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that sex isn't the same since you had a LLETZ procedure ( large loop excision of the transformation zone) and can understand you wanting find out if this could be a long lasting issue.

I'm afraid I don't know if this is something that will persist. I think it is fair to say that sexual function after LLETZ hasn't been extensively researched, and although some women have reported problems, the reasons why this might happen aren't well established - I'm sure you know that sexual function can be affected by both physical and psychological factors.

I think it would probably be a good idea to talk to your GP about this and get their input. In some areas it is possible to see a therapist about sexual problems on the NHS, if it is, there may be waiting times, but it is reasonable to ask if this is an option.

It might also be worth contacting the charity Jo's Trust, they have some infomation about intimicay problems after LLETZ on their website at the bottom of this link.

I hope things improve for you.

Please give us a ring if you want to talk anything over, the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
