Pancreatic exocrine insufficiecy

I am 2 years post diagnosis but am still struggling with the effects of chemo/radiotherapy. I have just been told, by letter so no chance to ask questions, that I have pancreatic exocrine efficiency after suffering with constant diarroeah since March last year. My lovely pharmacist printed me off some info and now I am terrified that my breast cancer has spread to my pancreas. Please help. Is there anyone out there that this has happened to?

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms that you have been experiencing.

I would talk your results through with your GP to see what they say. Try not to immediately assume the worst. The pancreatic exocrine efficiency may well not be connected with your cancer diagnosis.

Everyone's situation is so different that only your own doctors can tell you more. Do share your concerns with them.

From what I have read there are different causes for pancreatic exocrine efficiency. Now that they have diagnosed you with this condition, there may be treatments they can give you that may help control your symptoms.

You may find it helpful to read more about this condition on the charity Guts UK website here

I do hope that you know more soon.

If you feel that it would be helpful to chat with one of the helpline nurses then you are more than welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is Freephone  0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9-5.

    All the best,

    Catherine
