I had a mastectomy on 28th February, to remove a 65mm tumour (lymph node negative).
Three weeks later I had my oncology appointment where I was hoping to find out my remaining treatment plan (I should add that I have private health care). At that appointment, I was told it wasn't clear and that they would like to order a genomic test to determine whether chemotherapy was required. (I was a bit miffed that this hadn't already been done, by hey ho!).
Another 3 weeks on, I am still waiting for the results and a subsequent follow up appointment. There was a delay of a few days in ordering the test as the oncologist had requested the prosigna test which I now understand is for post-menapausal women, which at 40, I'm not.
So my questions:
1. How long are people generally waiting for the results of an oncotype DX test? I'm on day 14...
2. How long should I be waiting post-surgery for follow up treatment (I'm definately having radiotherapy and hormone therapy, its just whether chemo should come first). I'm currently 6 weeks and counting and with no plan as yet...
3. I'm currently feeling very unloved by my care team, my oncologist dismissed my worries about menopausal symptoms arising from tamoxifen, ordered the wrong test (knowing that I'm pre-menopause), and has generally not given me any information yet. Am I wrong to want a second opinion? (I should also add that I didn't get a follow up app with my surgeon as he had covid.).
Thank you for letting me rant! xx
