Just like cancer can travel to those nodes, infection travels to those nodes too. So, it's not always cancer. Infection is more common in lymph enlargement.

Thank you I appreciate such a fast reply, I knew that infections can cause then to swell Iv had my own scares with them. Iv just been worried because if the big lump on her breast accompanied by swollen lymph nodes on the same side. I couldn't seem to find any other answer on the web

I am sorry to hear your mum is going for tests on her breasts.

In answer to your question a lump on your breast and under your arm does not always mean a cancer diagnosis. There are other non cancerous conditions that women can get. Lymph nodes act like a filter for the body and can come up when an infection is present.

When there is a lump in the breast it is important that it is investigated and cancer is ruled out. The doctors may want to take a biopsy of the breast so they can look at the cells under a microscope. This will tell the doctors more about the lump.

If you can try and discuss this with your mum.
