Fit test greater than 400

Hello I'm new to this forum but getting very worried as fit test in stool came back greater than 400. For the past 3 weeks been having blood in my stool. Just the last couple of days feel like I've been hit by a brick, having pain and cramps in abdomen, feeling freezing cold, extremely sick and no energy what so ever. The doctor has ordered me to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy just worried it's cancer. Has anyone got any experience of this?

  • I've had a test result of over 400, and when I saw the Gastro doc at the local hospital i asked what were the chances of it being cancer and she responded that they were high, but not to worry. Normally I'm pretty unflappable but I'm struggling with this. I've been told I need a colonoscopy so I'm hoping all will be OK.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I can appreciate your concern. A high FIT test result can be due to a number of medical conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease. Bowel cancer is a possibility, but like most cancers, early detection means it is more likely to be successfully treated. The doctor needs to do a colonoscopy to have a good look at the inside of the bowel.

Try and keep an open mind, and try to keep busy and occupied whilst you wait for the colonoscopy to be done.

I hope that it goes well for you,

    Best wishes,
