I'm 25 years old and otherwise fit and healthy.
2 months ago I found a hard lump on my lymph node under my jaw. I monitored it and found no change so, 2 weeks ago, I went to my GP. He sent me for an urgent appointment at the ENT department & I was seen today. They put a camera down my throat and did a thorough investigation. They found a normal voice box but confirmed that there was a lump in the location I had indicated.
I know you shouldn't read into things too much but the doctor told me I needed to return for an ultrasound and quite possibly a fine aspiration biopsy. He stressed that it was probably nothing but was also debating with himself whether to send me for a CT scan too.
it's difficult to take comfort in what he said given the extent of the follow up examination in a couple of weeks. Im trying not to think about it, though I can't help but feel he must have seen something that indicated real concern.
Besides an occasional ringing in the ear on the side with the lump, I don't really have any other symptoms (notwithstanding the hard, painless lump).
im finding it increasingly difficult to eat, sleep & function in what is quite a stressful, client facing job. Im not sure what I'm looking for here; maybe some clarification about whether this is standard procedure/how to cope/whether I'm worrying unnecessarily.
Many thanks for your time.
