Chemo really bad pain and radiotherapy to come

Hi

My wife has bc. Lumpectomy, just had 5th chemo out of 6 but has, been in really bad pain and on morphine for the pain in her legs. Also a really bad constant cough.Doing tests now to see if it's spread to lungs and bones..... can't be good? Also she has a mutant gene called BAP 1  which if it has spread it can spread 10x quicker!  she was told she will be having 3 weeks radiotherapy after chemo but with the gene it has, a higher chance of skin cancer! She said they weren't going to go ahead after waying up pro/cons but now after finding out her lyph nodes taken out have shown to be 'jagged' they have now said she needs radiotherapy for 5 weeks, everyday mon- Fri! Really doesn't sound good!!

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your wife's situation. Waiting for the results to find out the cause of symptoms can be so unsettling. It is not easy being left in limbo, not knowing what the next stage will be.

We do have a page on pain control which you may find helpful to look at. Trying to get on top of pain can sometimes be a challenge as you need to balance getting rid of the pain without making someone feel too drowsy.

I am sorry to hear about the pain that she has been getting in her legs and I do hope that they are able to get on top of it soon. Have a look at our pages on medication here

Her doctors will have thought long and hard about any treatment decisions and I am sure they will be monitoring her regularly once the treatment has finished.

I do hope that you are managing to both get support from family and friends.

You are both so welcome to ring the helpline and speak to one of the helpline nurses. We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and our number is Freephone 0808800 4040.

    All the Very Best,

    Catherine
