Biopsies for Flexi Sig - normal?

I have had rectal bleeding, nausea and irregular stools for over a year now and have recently started to lose weight. My doctor suspects ulcerative colitis and sent me for a flexible sigmoidoscopy. They found 3 haemorrhoids and no polyps (thank God) and said the colon looks normal, but they still took 6 biopsies. Does this mean I'm in the clear for colorectal cancer or is it still possible to have this without polyps? Thank you for any replies :)

  • Hello there

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have been having and appreciate you wanting to know what may be causing them.

It is reassuring to hear you had a sigmoidoscopy and other than some haemorrhoids nothing else unusual was seen. It is a standard procedure to take biopsy samples regardless of what is or isn't seen, so try not to over think this.

Unfortunately no one on here can ever say what the matter may be so whilst I think it sounds like everything is good news you need to wait and speak to your doctor once the biopsy results are in to confirm everything is okay.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
