Letz wait Time 8 weeks for High Grade Cells and hpv

Hi

i had a smear test a year ago which showed hpv and borderline cell changes and the a colposcopy showed hpv and cin1, now I have just had a follow up smear test which showed high grade moderate cell changes and dyskarosis and hpv and was given a colposcopy appointment for 7 days time, went for the appointment they had a brief look and said they will do LLETZ under general anaesthesia within 4 weeks, I have heard nothing from them two weeks later and when I phone the soonest appointment was 8 weeks away, they hadn't bothered to contact me with an appointment and the woman was really unhelpful saying there was nothing she could do despite was I was told at the previous appointment, I also have severe ptsd and any intimate procedure is a trigger for me, please can anyone shed some light on whether this is right or not, I am panicking and don't know where to turn

  • Hello Samikav88 and thanks for posting,

I'm afraid I don't know why you were told that you would have a LLETZ in four weeks time when the next available appointment is eight weeks away. I can understand why this is bothering you.

In terms of the waiting times, I have had a quick look at the English colposcopy management guidelines and these say that most people with high grade moderate dyskariosis (cell changes) are meant to be given an appointment with 2 weeks as you were.  But after that it seems to depend on the situation.

Some people who need to have treatment will be treated at their first visit to the colposcopy clinic, others may have a biopsy taken before a decision about treatment is made. It looks like with people who have a biopsy first, the aim is to offer treatment to most of them within 4 weeks and no more than 8 weeks from when the biopsy report is known.  It usually takes several weeks for biopsy results to come back. I know this doesn't exactly answer your questions but I thought the time frames might be useful to know as it seems that some people may be waiting for quite a few weeks.

I am not sure who you spoke to at the colposcopy clinic, if it wasn't one of the doctors or nurses then it might be an idea to call back and ask to speak to one of them. It is unsettling to be told one thing and then another so I think it is reasonable to want to follow this up and ask for an explanation and reassurance, especially given your circumstances.

Give us a ring if you want to talk any thing over, the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays from 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
