Bleeding after LLETZ

I had the LLETZ procedure and after the first day I had barely any bleeding, just a brown/grey discharge.

I am now on day 5 and all of a sudden I have started bleeding (bright red / no clots so far) and I am having some cramps too. I'm just a bit concerned as it has come out of nowhere. I have done no strenuous activity, in fact, if anything I've spent the majority of the time doing nothing.

ps the LLETZ procedure didn't go exactly to plan & so I was given antibiotics incase the area became infected. Hence why im now worrying.

Just after so reassurance or advice please...

  • Hi

Obviously, if you are worried, please speak to your Dr or the Clinic involved in your care. I had the LLETZ procedure many years ago. What I do remember clearly is that I did have bleeding afterwards which came on after a few days. I remember it very clearly, as it made me faint whilst driving my 1 year old. I knew I was going to faint and it was only a one lane road and nowhere to stop. Luckily, I came to a hotel where I was able to pull in and promptly faint. It made me really nervous of driving for quite a while.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Bleeding can last for up to four weeks following Lletz treatment. See how things go but if you remain worried, you can make an appointment to talk your concerns over with your GP. This would be especially important if you had a temperature or if you felt unwell, as this could be a sign of infection.

You can read more about what to expect after a LLETZ procedure here.

Try and get some rest over the next few days and hopefully things will start to settle down soon for you.

Give us a ring if you wold like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
