I'm not a nurse and I had a larger operation as I also had lymph nodes removed, but yeah, I would say numb skin is normal. I still have a bit of numbness two and a half years later.

We have some information here about how you might feel after thyroid surgery which you may find useful.

It is normal to have numbness in the area around your scar, the feeling in this area will hopefully return over time. 

If there is tape in place over the stitches it will come off gradually.  If you are concerned about the healing or worried about anything else to do with the surgery you can phone the ward where you had your operation.  You can also speak to your GP.
