Pea sized breast lump

I have had a lump in my left breas for 3 years now. It was scanned and they said all was ok. It hasn't changed but shoul I be worried about it?
it's moveable, painless and doesn't cause any bother. I had a lump in my armpit removed and it was found to be benign breast tissue. I know seem to have additional breast tissue (lump) in my left arm pit too.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

As you have had this assessed thoroughly, then I would not worry about it. It is likely to be a fibroadenoma, and is probably a case of learning to live with it.

    There is more information here,

    breastcancernow.org/.../breast-lumps-benign-not-cancer-breast-conditions

Some women are just more predisposed to having fatty breast lumps, such as fibroadenomas. It does not mean that you are at any increased risk of developing breast cancer in the future.

Obviously, it is important to be generally body aware, and to note any general changes in our bodies, and always get them checked out by a doctor.

    I hope that this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

  • Thank you.I went to the docs and she said she'd refer me (non urgently) about removing the fatty tissue under my left armpit. She said asking as the lump hadn't changed in 3 years it would be fine...however, this morning I received a breast clinic appointment. I am unsure why I have received this as she didn't mention this at the appointment, do you have any ideas as to why?

I will ring the surgery on Monday to ask why.

    Thanks for your encouraging words,

  • Hello Cath and thanks for getting back to us

I'm sorry we haven't got back to you sooner but we aren't here on the weekends. I hope by now you have managed to speak to your surgery to get some answers about the breast clinic appointment.

It is however my understanding that any queries or concerns about lumps in either the breast tissue or armpit are referred to the breast unit for assessment prior to deciding if any treatment is needed.

I wish you all the best and do get back if you have more questions for us.

    Take care

    Naomi
