Waiting for colonoscopy biopsy results

Hi,

I am 19 and had a colonoscopy done 6 weeks ago after experiencing rectal bleeding. They found a polyp that was 'red and mottled'. They took some biopsies but they didn't remove it. It's ben 6 weeks and I still haven't heard anything. I've tried to call my GP and the hospital but they haven't got my results. I'm just concerned because I'm still experiencing a bit of rectal bleeding and I've still got the polyp that they didn't remove. Does anyone know why the polyp wasn't removed and why it's taking so long for the biopsy results?

thank you!!

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Unfortunately, there is a NHS backlog causing delays in processing laboratory results, so this is not unusual at the moment. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly how long you will have to wait to get your biopsy results as there will be some regional variations in different NHS Trusts.

But, if you don't hear anything by next week, then do ask your GP to enquire, or ring the specialist/consultant secretary.

I hope you know more soon and that everything turns out to be okay.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
