Breast biopsy

I had a third breast biopsy ten days ago. The previous two left hardly any bruising but this one has turned the whole underside of my breast black and blue although not painful. A few days ago I noticed a hard large lump in the area. Is this normal.

  • .Hello willowcat and thanks for posting,

I think the size of the biopsy needle can be a factor in how much bleeding occurs after a breast biopsy, but bruising is common and normal afterwards.

Sometimes a haematoma, which is like a deep bruise and isn't the same as regular bruising, can form and this can feel like a hard lump. And sometimes scar tissue can develop around the needle track.

If you can, it would probably be a good idea to contact the breast clinic to get their input about this lump, but I think it is likely to be a result of the biopsy and will hopefully sort itself out over time.
