Worried

Hello. My dad had prostate cancer 8.5 yrs ago. Had radiotherapy and hormone treatment, the cancer was contain in the prostate.(  Remission)    He recently had a PSA done and within 3 months it went from 2.5 to 22

On 26/5/22 he had a contrast bone scan   Two days later,he had appt to see consultant on 19/7/22. Appointment was changed to 7/6/22

He was asked to go back for organ scan on 3/6/22

Need honest opinions, does this mean bad news? He has NO symptoms at all.

  • Hi it is possible it's infection as that could raise psa, but then why the other tests. Remember it should still be treatable  .

My original psa was nearly 1600,  prostate gone too lymph node's, pelvis, spine, ribs and a lung that was feb 2016.  Had hormone therapy tablets daily and three monthly injection, then chemotherapy for three months, psa dropped for two years to 0.2 then slowly increasing for two years to2.8 then jumped to 68 in 3months i was put on stronger hormone therapy and it dropped again to0 03 last test 1.6. So it is rising slowly.

I call it my uninvited guest  .

In the beginning and even now, no side effects apart from lacking energy.

I was lucky actually to start with i was being sick regularly so loads of tests, turned out to be hernia, but one test showed something else, so psa test.

Ps remember im not medically trained just a cancer patient.

  • Hello Lyndz and thanks for posting,

I can understand you asking, but I am not sure what to make of your dad's situtaion. I expect the bone and organ scans are to look for any sign of the prostate cancer coming back which is a possibility because of the rise in the PSA , but just because the doctors want to investigate doesn't necessarily mean this is what is going on.

Unfortunately there is no way around waiting for the test results and to hear what your dad's doctors have to say.  Not knowing is inevitably unsettling and worrying, I hope that you find out more soon.

If you want to talk anything over please do give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,
