Advice on Prostate cancer

Hi All, Today my has been diagnosed with Prostate cancer, obviously we are still in shock with the news and are baffling oHiurselves with good old Google, we obviously asked for as much information as we could think of at the appointment, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice of food etc that he can take to lower or even maintain his psa levels and advise that fellow gentlemen have received from a medical professional on their journey. Any advice which has been received from a medical professional is much appreciated

  • Hi please please keep off Google, it's worst thing to read .

I've found food wise try to eat healthy things to keep body strong to fight cancer and put up with treatment which can be tough on the body, depending on treatment given .

I'm afraid no food will help with PSA decrease just treatment by oncologist or hormone therapy.

    i was diagnosed Feb 2016:with prostate cancer gone to lymph nodes, pelvis,spine,ribs and lung . PSA was1581 . I'm stage 4 Gleason 8 , T3B N1 M1B .

Hopefully others will join you soon with ideas that could help.

    Billy

  • Thank you for your reply, i wish u all the best in your journey  My father's psa is at 8.1 so they are actively monitoring him at the moment there is  so much to take in especially with only getting the diagnosis yesterday, he is 78 and very active and healthy so praying old age takes him before the C does

  • Hello and thank you for contacting us.

I'm sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis, it is of course always a shock to get this sort of news and can take time to process. I have tried here to provide some information which may be useful.

Here is our chapter from our website on prostate cancer which covers every aspect of it, you may have seen this already.

Here is a page from Prostate UK (the UK's prostate charity) website on diet. And this link is to their online community which may be helpful.

I see that you've also had already some good input from billygoatt on here, other forum users may come forward too with their thoughts and experience.

Take care, and if there is anything further you or your father would like to discuss you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040, 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
