calcium lump

history of casncer in r and l breast 10 years ago.  felt lum about 6 weeks ago size of small frozen pea.  Saw consultant who said they would do mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. Had mammogram and ultrasound with another consultant same day, who  said spots of calcium in both breasts evident but in her opinion nothing to worry about.  Lump has now grown sl;ightly, changed in shapoe I believe.  I have read information which says calcifications are "spots" and not lumps.  Confused and quite concerned that as it is a lump, although small and growing/changed in shape its something to worry about.  Anyone had similar experience please. \many thanks.

  • Hi and thanks for posting

Calcifications are calcium deposits in the breast and although are not cancerous, they can sometimes hide some cancer cells. So it's not uncommon to have a biopsy of the deposits to make sure. There is more information about this here

As you have a lump though, it may be helpful to have a discussion with the breast care nurse or consultant again as to what the next step may be now and whether a biopsy is going to be taken. The mammogram and ultrasound though, would perhaps have shown if there was anything of concern and needed further investigation.

People will have different experiences so although of interest, it may be best not to compare your situation with someone else.

I do hope you manage to speak with someone further about your lump

If you would like to talk this through with one of us here on the helpline, please do call - Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
