Lump behind ear

Hi, I've recently realised I've got a lump behind my ear that comes and goes. Only recently it's popped up bigger then previous times and a lot more prominent by touch and looking at it... for the past couple of weeks I've been unwell but putting it all down to something else that's going on. This lump at first was a bit painful but now I feel absolutely nothing of it... however I can feel that it is there when I'm lying on that side. My mum is a big worrier and over the past couple of mnth we've lost some family members who were either miss diagnosed or late diagnosed. And although I don't have much concern for it I'm still getting it checked just wondering if I'm ok to not have much concern haha... I've got an appointment but it's such a wait... I've not really been sleeping well and waking up with night sweats aswell as constantly feeling sick.  Doctors are aware of those symptoms as again I've had something else going on but again my mum worried that they're all connected...

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you have lost family members to cancer and are now concerned about your own health

Unfortunately no one here can say what the matter is or if anything serious is the matter but it is best to get this checked out, which is why i'm pleased to hear you have an appointment coming up.

Most symptoms have a simple and straightforward reason for them to occur that isn't anything as serious as cancer so try not to over think this for now.

Your doctor will be able to assess you and arrange more tests if needed to find out more. It is also possible to have a range of symptoms at once but they may be separate issues that aren't connected.

I hope you are able to get some answers and peace of mind soon. Do let your doctor know if things are getting worse or changing or you can call NHS 111 in an emergency or if you cannot get through to your own doctors for advice.

    All the best

    Naomi
