Breast question

Hi , I'm very worried about something in my breast. I'm 32 weeks pregnant and last week I noticed what feels like a tube coming from my nipple. It's easy feel and it feels very hard. Its about 1cm in length from the nipple up into breast. Does not move. Is not sore. Any one any ideas. Thank you

  • Hello there

Try not to worry too much as the breasts go through a series of changes during and after pregnancy, that can be read about here.

This is likely to be a milk duct but do mention it to your midwife or GP so they can assess you just to be sure and give you peace of mind.

I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and you can enjoy the arrival of your little one.

Get back in touch if you need to.

    Take care

  • Thanks for getting back to me naomi.

And is it OK for these to be solid/rock hard non movable?

    Thanks again appreciate it

  • I have had solid pieces of duct that feels like wire, duct exctasia they can get inflamed and painful mine  have come and gone over the years some have been removed but none have been cancerous.
I hope yours calm down and you can relax and have your baby. I would have a word with my G.P.  They can get infected and antibiotics can help or just some painkillers when needed.  Tell your healthcare team and get their opinion.

  • Hi again

Without being examined it's pretty difficult commenting ,and that's why it's best to point it out to the GP and /or midwife. In pregnancy especially though, ducts can become more prominent and can feel hard. Have a chat with them about your concerns - it's not uncommon for your breasts to feel very different while pregnant and they will have come across similar situations.

    All the best
