Lump in armpit still around after 5 years.

I noticed a lump in my right armpit when I was around 16 years old. GP had a quick look/feel and dismissed it as a swollen lymph node. I quickly forgot about it. I started taking the contraceptive pill when I was 18. I am now 22, and recently discovered what I think is a small lump in my right breast. I'm not sure whether it's just breast tissue and normal but I'm a little concerned because the lump in my armpit is still there too, even after 5 years. Am i over reacting or should I get it checked out? My next pill check is in 5 months.

    Hi olive it's entirely up to you but I would definitely get checked it won't do any harm. After my diagnosis I would always get lumps and bumps assessed to be on the safe side and encourage others to do so.

    Hope you get it sorted and hopefully it turns out to be nothing which many do.

    I can understand that finding a lump can be worrying and we would always advise anyone to get any new lump checked out by their doctor. You could also ask your GP to check the lump under your arm.

    Cancer at your age is unlikely but we are unable to diagnose you. Breast cancer is  usually a cancer of women much older then yourself. Benign (non cancer) lumps are much more common at your age. You can read much more about these on the Breast Cancer Now website here

    I hope you manage to speak to your GP soon and hopefully they will be able to provide you with that reassurance.
