My husband and I are both 56, our birthdays are two days apart. My son aged 28, my daughter aged 22 and I run a small cafe in Leamington Spa. My husband, their Dad is self employed too and is our first port of call when we have a problem, he supports us very well. We also have a son aged 26 who lives in Blackpool.
My husband Philip and I have been together for thirty years this August. Last week Philip had a colonoscopy following symptoms of constipation and blood from his rectum since November 2011.
As soon as the camera reached 10cm inside his rectum he saw something wrong and asked the doctor what it was, he was told it's a tumor. Several pieces were taken for biopsy, he has to have a CT scan and an MRI scan within two weeks, on the green form he was handed the doc wrote 'probably malignant'. We have cried because in November he was told after a PR examination there was nothing of note found. Because his symptoms continued he went back and was referred for the colonoscopy by a different GP now here we are. We are waiting for the appointments for the scans and the result of the biopsy before mentioning anything to our children. It's all very worrying and it's hard for us not to cry whenever we think of how our children will take it. Philip is a wonderful Dad to them and is always helping them out. How shall we break it to them?
