I am 55yrs old and have just found out that I have cancer. Such a horrible word we hope to never have to use ourselves but here we find ourselves, like many others. It all started with a tooth ache so I went to my dentist who found nothing wrong but told me to go back in a week. In the week, my toothache had gone but I was left with a lump in my neck. The dentist referred me to the hospital, just to be on the safe side.
I had my appointment but was very surprised to find out that they were going to do a biopsy. That was so painful and made me feel sick. In the meantime, I was sent for a chest CT scan and a head and neck MRI. The results came back negative which was such a relief and was told to make a follow up appointment for 4 weeks time. As an added precaution the consultant did a needle biopsy before I left and a load of puss type fluid came out and the lump went down. I got call a week later to say that they had found cancer cells in the lump and that it was a secondary cancer and that there was a tumour somewhere else, likely to be the tonsils. Since then I had a PET scan which revealed the little critter and I had my tonsils out as well as a tongue biopsy. Just waiting for biopsy results now.
