My journey began last October when I had a recall from my mammogram. Total shock and disbelief and probably the most anxious time of my life. After biopsy, ultra sound and MRI it was confirmed I had lobular cancer, fortunately caught early but still very frightening. I had a lumpectomy on the 21st December , 2018. One lymph node was removed and thank goodness it had not spread. The waiting has been the worst, the treatment I received from our local hospital has been amazing. The operation itself was not painful in anyway and within days I felt well and with it being Christmas I was surrounded by family and friends. Just waiting for my treatment plan which hopefully is no more than radiotherapy and tablets. They have suggested that for me chemotherapy is unlikely to be beneficial but the final decision will be after the results come back from a sample sent to the USA . Do not know too much about this test but I understand if you are borderline it is helpful to the oncologist in deciding final treatment plan. A few more weeks to wait which causes me more anxiety but we have a local Haven Unit and I am going to see them next week. Well that’s my story in a nutshell, I am very positive for the future and I am very thankful for the mammogram screening offered to us ladies.
