my husband has been diagnosed with mouth cancer with the primary tumour being at the base of the tongue. He has to effected Lymphnodes which seem to be growing quickly. It has been a month since he noticed the 1st lump and there are now 2 nodes effected which can be seen and he is finding it difficult to move his neck to the left. He is having a GA and Biopsy on Friday.Appointment with the Oncologist following Friday to review all biopies and scans. Could anyone advise please when the treatment should start I am quite scared at how quickly the nodes have grown. He has been told he will have 3 chemotherapy treatments and 7 weeks of Radiation. I see from the forum the normal treatment is 6 weeks which is very tough I just dont know how he will manage the extra week. He is a very fit 69yr old who up until now cycled in a club 3 times a week and played Badmington 4 times a week. I am normally a very strong person having been through losing my Mother, Mother in law and recently Sister to this terrible disease but it is the thought of the side effects of the treatment that fill me with horror and dont know how we will get through it . He is also very slim and has a few other medical problems to do with his digestion. ENT doctor said he will have to have a PEG fitted and he will probably have blistering to his neck. It has left him very shaken and although he is usually very strong minded I can see he is struggling.
