I was married for 36yrs 52days to my lovely Ian who had aggressive and advanced bowel cancer which he fought for 7yrs 4mths. We have no children (by choice) but have a sedate 3yr old tabby cat and three gorgeous laughter-making, mood-lifting female tabby kittens plus four pet sheep. I love animals (obviously), good food, travel and my garden. My husband finished ten months of brutal chemo in June 2012 and at the end was transferred to the hospice for palliative care as there were no chemo options left for him. He had Avastin and Erbitux monoclonal antiobody treatments privately and they probably bought Ian more time. He was nine months in the hospice system and despite huge ups and downs refused to stop having fun and die. That sounds a bit cold and blunt but that's what he said. He said he was intending to hang around for a bit longer yet and peee everyone off - whilst sucking every morsel of fun out of life that he could :)
On 29th March 2013 at 11.20pm Ian took his last breath after five brutal days of pain. I had begged him to let go but he wouldn't until pnuemonia overwhelmed him. I will love Ian forever and miss him for even longer and I will admire his strength, courage and bravery till the day I die.
