Married, retired, a grandmother to two grandsons and a granddaughter
Recently diagnosed with Epithelial Ovarian Germ Cell Carcinoma stage 1C3.
Husband recently diagnosed with prostate cancer so we both had major abdominal surgery within two weeks of each other - really, really challenging recovery period!
Surgery completed early March 2019 and now awaiting the dreaded chemotherapy regime.
Husband passed on the BRCA1 gene mutation to both of our daughters. Both had breast cancer in their late twenties, both had double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Sadly our elder daughter had metastasised stage 4 breast cancer seven years after her initial diagnosis. Despite twenty months of continuous chemotherapy, including drug trials, she died in 2016. I know exactly what to expect from chemotherapy unfortunately as I was by her side the whole time.
I am very fortunate to have a wonderful husband and brilliant family, neighbours and friends as well as a fabulous Clinical Nurse Specialist and oncologist (who also happened to help our elder daughter throughout her treatment). I feel I have a strong support mechanism and how fortunate am I?
