I'm a 40 yr old woman, married to the most amazing 45 yr old man, I have a 22 yr old stepdaughter, a 15 yr old daughter & a 3 yr old son whose energy knows no bounds!!
In February 2015 my husband was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer & advised to undergo radiotherapy/chemo tablets to shrink the tumour with a view to surgery. They also noticed a "spot" on his liver but said it was nothing to worry about.
After the treatment and the long wait another scan showed that the tumour had only shrunk a tiny bit, meaning that there was not enough of a margin around it to allow for successful surgery. The surgeon advised that even if they removed all they could see, there were most probably going to be microscopic cells remaining. In addition to this, he also advised that the "spot" had since become a "significantly sized tumour".
We have now been given the option of surgery on the bowel (leaving the liver tumour to grow) or chemo for the liver (leaving the bowel tumour to grow). Such huge decisions put into our hands, as the MDT team could not decide which was the best way to go!!!
***UPDATE***
So now we've been told by the Oncologist that surgery is NOT an option as the tumour is too big, so have to go through the Chemo route in the hope that this helps...if not then who knows.....
