I was diagnosed with colon cancer 2b nine years ago when I was 54. It is now terminal. Over this time I have had pretty much continuous treatment, be it surgery or chemotherapy and other drugs - Iie. colon section, liver section, liver ablations, Oxyplatin, Irinetecan , 5Fu, Avastin, Cetuximab. I have now run out of treatments and the cancer is on the move again with new tumours in peritenium, bowel, ovary, liver and lung. My onc is trying an old favourite, Folfox with Avastin to see if he can stabilise and use the zyber knife on some of the Mets.
On the positive side, I have nine wonderful years of life. The old cliche is so true as you really make the most of every day. I retired early, have enjoyed so many good times with travel, friends and family. It may get you in the end, but cancer is a chronic condition these days and there are many treatments options availabblr to help you live with cancer for a long time.
