Hi guys I am a 49 yr old male and was diagnosed with bowel cancer on the 4th July 2019 and had surgery on the 30th July to remove part of the bowel and the tumour. I spent 11 nights in hospital a few more than expected due to an infection and my big pelvis which meant I was cut open rather than the intended keyhole surgery. I am receiving Fluralolicil a chemotherapy drug 1 day a week for 30 weeks. Some cancer had gone into some of my veins around the bowel wall hence stage 2 cancer. As for diagnosis I had no symptoms but I had a routine test while I had a stomach infection earlier in the year and it showed I was slightly anemic which in turn I got sent for a colonoscopy and the rest is history. It was scary at first being diagnosed but I treated it as because it was out of my control I would not worry about it and this has been my attitude throughout. Now the attitude I have doesn't mean I don't care but as I say I can't control the cancer so why worry.
I am now living with a ileostomy stoma as of 10th February 2020 due to scar tissue and a narrowing of my resection which has been picked up 6 months after tumor surgery. I had suffered IBS severe symptoms which were treated as chemo side effects and ended up in hospital while going for a chemo session where after a CT scan the blockage was picked up hence leading to an emergency ileostomy. My chemotherapy treatment has now restarted after my recovery from surgery. We put ourselves in the safe hands of our wonderful surgeons, consultants, doctors and nurses alongside all the health care assistants.
