My consultant said I received the information of the cancer [squamous cell carcinoma right side of tongue] biopsy extremely well, I think she was surprised.
First surgery was in December 2010 [Christmas] to remove the cancer.
Procedures: Right selective neck dissection, Right lateral tongue resection and extraction of five teeth to promote recovery.
Mask constructed February 2011 [Head & Shoulders] for radiotherapy treatment.
First session of thirty treatments of radiotherapy on right side of neck.
Mask constructed June 2012 [Head & Shoulders] for radiotherapy treatment.
Second session of thirty one treatments of radiotherapy on left supraclavicular fossa and six treatments of chemotherapy.
Second surgery in April 2013 after reduced size of tumor from treatment.
Procedure: tumor removal from recurrent Nodal Disease left supraclavicular fossa & left radical neck dissection - 53 staples and one stitch. Accessory nerve sacrificed.
In May, after staples had been removed, the skin opened up during a morning wash at home and I said to my wife - I think I have a problem [very calmly].
The wound gradually coalesced after five months of dressing changes from attention provided by our wonderful local nurses
