Hi - my father age 73 recently was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer which they believe had spread to his liver (small lump). He had the surgery and has just completed 3 months of Chemo. Got some good news today 10th Jan, that the CT scan was clear, however we were then given some confusing advice - He needs an MRI on the liver as the CT scan isn't 100% accurate there. We weren't told how accurate a CT scan is or a MRI scan is for picking up cancer post chemo. Also we were told that both the MRI and CT scans aren't accurate enough so suggested 3 more months of Chemo despite not finding cancer.
So looking to see if this is 100% the best idea and double checking there's no other scans private or NHS available to check cancer post chemo to determine if 3 more months of Chemo are necessary / the best advice.
