Improving Hospital Spaces, Navigation and Feedback Cancer Patients Experience in the NHS

Hi everyone!

As someone who has experienced cancer myself, which is partly what inspired this research. Having been on the patient side, and an active PPIE representative I know that the experience of cancer care isn't just about the clinical or medical treatment you receive, but also everything happening around it.

It's the time spent sitting in waiting rooms, walking through endless corridors, trying to find the right department, feeling bored or anxious while waiting for appointments, or even something as simple as not being able to find a plug socket to charge your phone!

These might seem like small things, but they can make a real difference to how you feel during an already difficult time.

I'm interested in understanding how the spaces around us influence our experience of care, from hospital layouts, signage and waiting areas to privacy, natural light, outdoor spaces and opportunities to feel comfortable or connected to others.

This research co designed and discussed with patient advisors throughout the whole process is looking at how hospital environments and finding your way around cancer centres can affect people's experiences during cancer treatment.

This short online survey to hear about people's experiences of cancer care environments, what works well and what could be improved.

If you've received cancer treatment in an NHS hospital, I'd really appreciate you taking a few minutes to share your thoughts.

The survey includes some images of hospital spaces and questions about your experiences and preferences. There's no right or wrong answer - I'm simply interested in hearing different perspectives.

I'm hoping the findings will help inform improvements to cancer care environments in the future as well as help add to patient feedback and national surveys as these miss the everyday realities cancer patients face.

Thank you so much for your time! If anyone could share this on this would be of much help!
