MGUS

Hi all. Hmm to begin.

46 year old male.

earlier in year was having blood tests for an borderline thyroid function. Feeling poorly, tired, brain fog horrendous night sweats. Last check said ok, nurse on phone said have you been unwell as raised protein level. I must have had an infection or something.

fast forward 7 months. Needed routine bloods done as a check up, age thing. Review.

results came back as a M protein spike in my bloods.

the doctor called me in, gave me a full check over. I explained the fatigue, horrendous night sweats and what I believed to be swiollen glands in my neck / throat.

on his examination he said that he had done a urgent referral to haematology. That it was possibly swollen lymph nodes. this was the 5 nov.

he said they wanted to see if I had MGUS.

Since then I was called back in for more bloods, fullblood count etc being done. Last week I had an ultrasound on my neck. The lady doing it said she couldn't comment on it. I had to wait to see the consultant. I asked are they swollen, she said that sometimes they flare up. Been swollen a few months. I have the consultant this Friday 10th Dec.

now dreading this week. I feel it's going to be slow.

only my wife, mum and dad know. I have a 27 year old married daughter and 25 years old married son and a 6 year old how did that happen baby, along with 3 grandkids

I've been acting normal, doing my normal things and try to think

positive. But now worry has set in and struggling a bit. Will do until 0930 on Friday morning, it's been flash bang 5 weeks.

Waiting for results is always tough but you're not alone as many of our members have been through this process and know how tough it can be so I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

I'm not sure how much you know about MGUS but if you'd like to find out more, just click here and scroll down to 'monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS)'. You can also discuss this and anything else that is playing on your mind with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I know I can't take the worry away but I hope it helps to know we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed for good news on Friday.

    Kind regards,
