19 and faced with a lump

I went to the gp just over 3 weeks ago now about a lump in my chest. It has been there for a bit over 6 months but I ignored it until my partner felt it during sex. He made me go and my doctor sent a referral of for it.  She said up to 8 weeks as it wasn't urgent but it is really playing on my mind and I'm not sure if it is just my brain but I'm sure it is more prominent and towards the front of the breasr than it was before. Its like I can see it without even pressing down. I'm not sure what to do, do I call? I haven't even heard anything from the clinic yet. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hello JessB124

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some concerns with your breast health and that you're now waiting for an appointment at the clinic. We know that it can be a worrying time for many people when they're waiting for appointments, tests, and results. It may help to know that the large majority of people seen at a breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. You do also have age on your side so try to hold on to these positive points until you've seen the Consultant.

In the meantime, you could try calling the hospital to see how long the waiting list is and if they have any cancellations available. I'd also suggest getting in touch with your GP just to let them know that you feel as though the lump has grown. They can then arrange to see you again if necessary.

If you'd like to chat with one of our team of nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Keep in touch and do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • So I've got my first appointment. They called me today and got me in tomorrow. I'm now more nervous then I was before and have started to shut down. The person on the phone said it was down for a 10 minute appointment and then the advice she gave was that it could be up to 3 hours. I'm terrified but I don't think anything is going to help at this point.
