How much can alcohol and ibuprofen affect calprotecin levels

Hi, I’m a 22 year old male, 6ft3, 86kg.

I submitted a calprotecin test last Monday and my levels came back as 160. Here is a little history following up to this test.

On the Saturday it was my friends birthday so we had a drink, I finished 20 300ml bottles of beer. I don’t drink often only on special occasions but I get carried away when I do.

On Sunday the morning after, I was sick once and I also took 2 ibuprofen tablets after wards to help with my sore head. I was fine for the rest of the day.

On the Monday I submitted my calprotecin test which came back as 160mg/kg. I also submitted a FIT test which came back as 40ug/g. I have now been placed on a 2 week referral.

Could these chain of events affected my results in any way? How high above normal are these results?

This is my 4th post as the more I research the more questions I have, sorry for being a nuisance, it's just all very frightening and frustrating at the moment, I am staying positive I just have so many questions while I wait for my referral.

Thank you everyone!

  • Hey Jdog,

It's completely natural to have a lot of questions when waiting for referrals and results so there's no need to apologise for asking about this. The only problem is our community can't really answer this question but our team of cancer nurses may be able to help so if you'd like to get their thoughts on this you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. It may be worth having a chat with your doctor about this as well.

I hope you're not waiting too long for your appointment to come through and all goes well when the time comes.

    All the best,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
