I am sure it is normal procedure to get results in an appointme  whether neg or pos.

Try not to pre empt what your result will be,you will just worry yourself into a right state over the next 6days. The days before and following a biopsy are the worst for anyone the waiting feels like forever.

We are never far away if you need to chat or ask anything.

Thank you. I think I'm quite low at the moment and since the biopsy I have had a debilitating attack of shingles to my face and eye, the first ever. I will just wait and see and try to remain positive, which i usually am. My friend recently had her negative biopsy result via post from the same hospital and so I think that scared me a little.

Yes I can understand your worry.

Think of it this way. One consultant prefers to post neg results another consultant prefers to see his patient in person to reasure them for one thing.

I always tell people in your position a stat that 90 out of 100 oral biopsies are benign. There are so many non cancerous things that happen in mouth.

Another little pearl to tell yourself is that: its not cancer till they say it is!

No matter the outcome there are some on here that have been there like myself and are always around if you need support at any time. Some great folks on here.

Can I ask,  did you ever have an MRI? 

I recently had one as I have swallowing soreness on one side, and lots of neck discomfort for nearly a year.  My ENT consultant has looked down my throat twice and arranged an MRI with contrast.  Everything came back clear. Tongue looks normal.  But I have an area of raised papillae right at the back edge of my tongue that gets sore every now and then.  I've shown it to 2 doctors, and both say it's normal papillae.  What did your tongue cancer look like?  I'm pretty sure my consultant didn't see it as I have to pull my tongue out to get a proper look.  I'm worrying that the MRI didn't pick it up.  You seem to have had CT scans.  I've actually emailed the radiologist yesterday to ask if an MRI would detect SCC of the tongue.  I feel like I'm having to chase things up myself all the time.

May I begin by reassuring you that scc oral cancer is very aggresive and after a year any tumour would be advanced and easily detected by biopsy or scans. A CT scan is used to detect if there is any evidence of spread to ther areas from  the origional confirmed tumour IE; head and lungs.

You really need to be assured by maxillofacial drs if they tell you there is no evidence of cancer then the best thing you can do is believe what you are told and try to stay calm and dont dwell on it.

There are many reasons papillae can be enlarged most commonmiddle rear of tongue are larger and not uniform in size is biting tongue whilst chewing also a rough area on a tooth or filling. Worth a wee dental checkup.Also papillae toward rear middle third of tonge are larger and not uniform in size.

Most people with cancer that has spread to lymph nodes do not complain of any pain or discomfort.A painful node is more likley to be an infection or even a node not draining well but your mri would have shown this up.

My tumour was very noticeble if you can imgagine a very red sunken crater on the moon with red rolled edges thats how I would describe mine visually. No pain or discomfort just sitting there growing and waiting to be noticed.

Honestly if I were you I would take on board what drs are telling you as Ive already said after a year and tests etc you would def know.
